Considering Alternative Therapies?
Medical cannabis could be an alternative for a number of chronic conditions, where conventional medication has failed. We can help you to have the conversation with your doctor.
Medical cannabis as a treatment alternative
There is growing evidence that medical cannabis (or medical marijuana as it is also known) could be a treatment alternative for a number of chronic conditions. It may help with the management of symptoms that have not responded to conventional therapies, due to its interaction with our natural endocannabinoid system, which helps regulate functions, such as sleep, pain, mood, appetite, and memory. If you are suffering from a chronic condition and are looking to evaluate alternative treatments, medical cannabis could be an option for you.
Approved for a number of chronic conditions
To date, more than 50,000 patients have been approved for medical cannabis treatment in Australia for over 30 chronic conditions, such as chronic pain, neuropathic pain, cancer, anxiety, epilepsy, and insomnia. These large categories include highly prevalent ailments such as back pain, neck pain, arthritis, fibromyalgia, and depression. The clinical body of evidence for these conditions is growing and the regulatory process has been streamlined to reduce barriers for doctors to prescribe.

A clear path to patient access
Medical cannabis has been legal in Australia since October 2016 and can be prescribed by a registered medical practitioner. To date more than 50,000 patients have been approved for treatment. Since then, regulation and processes to access medical cannabis have been significantly streamlined, making it easier for doctors to prescribe to suitable patients. However the market develops at a fast-pace and doctors often can't keep up with the ongoing changes and rely on obsolete information. As such, doctors can at times become the biggest obstacle in accessing medical cannabis. We’re here to support you in navigating the conversation with your doctor.
Medical cannabis explained
Medical cannabis (or medical marijuana as it is also known) uses the plant’s therapeutic properties to treat chronic conditions, by interacting with the body's natural endocannabinoid system (ECS). Each plant comprises over 100 different cannabinoids, with the most common and researched compounds being cannabidiol (CBD) and tetrahydrocannabinol (THC). Increasing research and clinical evidence suggests that cannabinoids could help to relief a variety of symptoms effectively and safely, but it is important to differentiate between street cannabis, hemp, CBD and medical cannabis as their composition and therefore therapeutics effects vary significantly.
